Introduce a Girl to Engineering day (IGEday) is now in its eleventh year and now focuses specifically on sustainability in the workplace to inspire the next generation of engineers. The growing commitment to the initiative is underlined by the record number of companies participating, many of which are driving sustainable solutions.
On March 28, 2025, over 2,600 girls and non-binary people between the ages of 13-19 will have the chance to explore the engineering profession at 98 different companies. New this year is the Womengineers Foundation's special focus on engaging companies that are actively working for a sustainable future. These companies, our ”"heroes of our time"”, shows how technology and engineering can help solve global challenges such as climate change and resource efficiency. By offering young people the opportunity to visit them, Womengineer wants to show that engineering is not only fun, but also important and meaningful in working for a better world.
According to a recent survey from IVA, 711% of Swedish middle and high school students believe that knowledge in science and technology is crucial to counteracting the climate crisis, but only 51% of them consider working with environmental and climate issues in the future. Womengineer wants to change that picture by showing that technology and sustainability often go hand in hand, and that the engineering profession's technical solutions are an important contribution to a sustainable future.
”"We know that girls need to meet role models and see technology in its proper context in order to develop their interest in technology. By also highlighting companies that actively work on sustainability issues, we want to show that the engineering profession also offers an opportunity to create positive change in the world,", says Anna Sjögård, marketing manager at Womengineer.
This year's participating companies include established players such as Siemens Energy, Volvo Group, Hitachi Energy and Billerud, but also upstarts such as Novatron Fusion Group, Tibber and Cemvision.
Registration for participants is open between January 7 and March 12, 2025, of course it's free! Journalists are warmly welcome to participate and experience IGEday on site on March 28th.

About IGEday
IGEday (Introduce a Girl to Engineering day) is organized annually by the Womengineer Foundation since 2015. The aim is to inspire young girls and non-binary people to explore technology and engineering through study visits to companies throughout Sweden. So far, over 14,000 young people have been inspired to explore their interest in technology, of which 8 out of 10 participants say that the day has increased their interest in technical studies.
About the Womengineer Foundation
Womengineer was founded in 2008 and aims to achieve an equal gender distribution among those graduating as engineers in Sweden by 2030, because the world will simply be better if everyone is involved in shaping it.
