The record number of participating companies, many of which are leaders in sustainable solutions, testifies to the growing commitment to the initiative and the concrete aim of inspiring the engineers of the future.

“At IGEday, young people get to meet role models and test technical professions in practice. This creates a broader understanding of what an engineering education can lead to – and it is precisely this type of inner motivation and curiosity that must be encouraged.”, says Anna Sjögård, marketing manager at the Womengineer Foundation, the organization behind the initiative.

The government recently released Sweden's first STEM strategy, which consists of a number of measures aimed at strengthening Sweden's supply of skills in science and technology. The strategy mentions, among other things, that “Despite the fact that women and men have the same capacity to work in STEM professions, women are still underrepresented, especially in professions that require technical education. If Sweden cannot address the skills shortage that exists, we risk being overtaken by countries that invest heavily in research and development.”

The strategy emphasizes the importance of long-term work where many actors need to do more to ensure that more people are educated in STEM. Womengineer is just such an actor. The foundation is driven by the conviction that young people's curiosity is a force to be harnessed and that it plays a crucial role in shaping the engineers and researchers of the future. To increase interest in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), it is not enough to simply strengthen schools - the business community must also be involved. As one of Sweden's most established, successful and large-scale initiatives from the non-profit sector, Womengineer is therefore continuing its important work with IGEday for a gender-equal technology sector.

On March 28, 2025, 2,500 girls and non-binary people between the ages of 13-19 will have the chance to explore the engineering profession at 98 different workplaces around the country, which is a record for both the number of participating companies and the number of participants. New for this year is the focus on engaging companies that are actively working for a sustainable future. These companies, our ”"heroes of our time"”, shows how technology and engineering can help solve global challenges such as climate change and resource efficiency. By offering young people the opportunity to visit them, Womengineer wants to show that engineering is not only fun, but also important and meaningful in working for a better world.

This year's participating companies are diverse. Established players such as Siemens Energy, Epiroc, Hitachi Energy, Zoégas, Autodesk, Teledyne Flir, Verisure, AFRY and Billerud will welcome young people as well as emerging companies such as Novatron Fusion Group, Tibber and Cemvision.

Are you a journalist and want to visit a company at IGEday?
Contact us and we will help you get in touch with a participating company!

About IGEday
IGEday (Introduce a Girl to Engineering day) is organized annually by the Womengineer Foundation since 2015. The aim is to inspire young girls and non-binary people to explore technology and engineering through study visits to companies throughout Sweden. So far, over 14,000 young people have been inspired to explore their interest in technology, of which 8 out of 10 participants say that the day has increased their interest in technical studies.

About the Womengineer Foundation
Womengineer was founded in 2008 and aims to achieve an equal gender distribution among those graduating as
