Time is flying and I’m now midway through my internship. So far I’ve had a really good time and I truly enjoy working with my team. I’m learning a bunch of new stuff and I’m filled with desire to create on my spare time. To me, that’s a really good grade for a work place. If I want to code and create even more when I get home, that means I’m inspired. Sadly I don’t have too much time on weekdays, so I usually settle with a run and/or an episode (or two…) of breaking bad on Netflix before winding down for the night.

This weekend I’ve spent a good couple of hours writing code though and I’d encourage anyone with the slightest interest to try and have a pet project. It really doesn’t have to be grand, smart or interesting to anyone but you. Just having something to work on will spawn more ideas and most of all, be a source of new knowledge.

I’m currently rewriting my webapp I did for finding drink recipes based on ingredients you have at home since I’m not too happy with it’s current performance. It’s working and I think it’s a nice prototype, but nicely for me there is also a lot of room for improvement.

I think that the same applies to a bunch of practices, start small and work from there. It’s really hard to create something perfect from start (in software I’d say it’s impossible) but it’s easier to create a prototype, a building block for something else to emerge from.

“Wine and code, perfect weekend”
